Overview
One Theatre, One Last Week
Shot in eighteen days inside a real 1920s picture house.
The Last Matinee follows Mara, a projectionist inheriting a theatre she cannot afford to keep, through its closing week. We produced and directed the film with a crew of twenty-four, shooting nights so the location could stay open to the public by day.
The film premiered at two regional festivals and is now streaming on independent platforms.

Challenge
A Location That Could Not Close
The theatre earned its keep from daytime visitors, so every setup had to be built after midnight and struck before eight in the morning. Our art department designed modular sets that could appear and vanish in under an hour.
Approach
Let the Building Act
We treated the theatre as a cast member — long static takes, practical lamps only, and production sound recorded in the actual hall so the room's echo plays through the whole film. Nothing was shot on a stage.
